Times: The Village is open 9:30 am - 4:00 pm. Activity times vary; pre-registration is required.
Cost: Included with standard daytime admission or Village membership. Workshops are an additional fee and pre-registration is required.
Join us for our spring Scout Day! Scout Days offer you and your troop the opportunity to explore the Village and participate in hands-on activities. This is a great opportunity for Scouts to gain exposure to many aspects of 1830s New England life in an interactive way.
We recommend that you allow for up to three hours to visit the Village, in addition to any scheduled hands-on workshops.

Village Admission
Village admission on Scout Day is included with standard daytime admission or Village membership.
Scout Day admission: For non-members, cost is $12 per Scout for full-day admission to Old Sturbridge Village. One adult per Scout ages 5 and above is admitted at the discounted rate of $17. Additional tickets can be purchased at regular rates.
The April 12th Scout Day falls within our Kids Free promotion, where up to two kids are admitted for free per adult paying full-price admission ($27 online or $30 at the door). The Kids Free promotion and Scout Day admission process cannot be combined, please choose the best deal for your group.
Hands-on Workshops are an additional fee and pre-registration is required.

Hands-On Workshops
Whether you want to work towards one of your badges or just try out an activity for fun, we offer a wide variety of hands-on workshops for Scouts of all ages. See listings below for requirements covered during the workshop. Some requirements will need to be completed outside of the visit to Old Sturbridge Village.
Pre-registration is required and workshops often fill up quickly.

Things to know:
- Pre-registration is required for all workshops, unless otherwise noted.
- All events are limited to 12 students unless otherwise noted.
- These are not drop-in programs, unless otherwise noted. Our staff will have a list of registrants for each workshop.
- Students’ guardians must stay in close proximity of the program location for the entire duration of the activity for safety reasons.
- Though each listing includes a list of which the activity may fulfill, these programs are open to all Scouts.
- Meeting locations for these workshops may change. Stay tuned to your email or signage at the Visitor Center on the day of the program for any potential location changes.
- Workshop times are approximate. Please stay close by during your child’s workshop.
Make Seed Balls | 50 Minutes | $7
Meets at the Museum Education Building
It’s spring, which means that it's time to get planting. Participants will check out one of the Village's gardens and plot out where to plant our beans and peas. We will plant a seed to take home and also try out a 21st-century planting activity: making seed balls from clay, soil, and wildflower seeds!
May fulfill the following requirements:
- Lions: Ready, Set, Grow 1,2,3
- Daisies: Pink Petal, make the world a better place
- Juniors: Gardener 1, 2, and 4 and Eco Friend 1
Shelter Building | 50 Minutes | $7
Meets at the Saw Mill in the Village
Use your creative problem-solving skills and create a shelter from natural and manufactured materials. Participants will be given a scenario before coming up with their own designs for protective shelters.

- Juniors: Camper 2,4
- Cadettes: Outdoor Primitive Camper 4
Hearth Cooking | 50 Minutes | $7
Meets at the Museum Education Building
Experience cooking 19th-century style using common household tools and recipes. Make and enjoy a honey cake and share it together!
Ingredients include: flour, sugar, honey, orange peel, baking powder, milk, egg, ginger and cinnamon.

Carding and Weaving | 50 Minutes | $7
Meets at the Museum Education Building
The process of making clothing in the 1830s was a little different than it is today. Step into the role of an 1830s villager and learn about the hard work behind making sheep’s wool into fabric. Participants will get hands-on experience carding wool from the Village’s own sheep and then weaving thread into cloth.

Wood Working | 50 Minutes | $7
Meets at the Museum Education Building; Accomodates up to 10
Use a variety of 19th-century tools to make a bootjack, a useful tool to help you remove your muddy boots! Participants will learn how to be safe with woodworking tools, too.

- Webelos: Build It 1, 2, 3,4
Outdoor Art | 50 Minutes | $7
Meets at the Salem Towne Garden in the Village

Spring has sprung! Bring your artistic skills and get inspired by nature. Participants will check out one of the Village’s gardens and then using watercolors, paint what you see.

Marble Madness | 50 Minutes | $7
Meets at the Museum Education Building
Learn all about the ancient game of marbles! From aggies to jaspers, we will explore marble slang and play fun marble games. We will also make our own marbles from clay and a decorative bag to store them in!

Hearth Cooking: Farmhouse Breakfast | 90 Minutes | $12
Meets at the Museum Education Building
Work together to cook a full breakfast over the open hearth, then sit down to enjoy the meal together. The menu includes eggs, cheese toast, potatoes, and other breakfast treats. Participants will also learn about chores that kids helped with in the 1830s and help with wood gathering, setting the table, and dishwashing. Ingredients will include: ham, potatoes, eggs, bread, butter, cheese

Open Hearth Cooking – Herb Pie | 90 Minutes | $12
Meets at the Museum Education Building
Create a savory herb pie using a historic 1830s receipt. Try out historical cooking techniques as you prepare this classic dish over an open hearth. Enjoy the fruits of your labor with other workshop participants! Ingredients Include: flour, butter, eggs, cream, and herbs.

Make a Toolbox | 90 Minutes | $12
Meets at the Museum Education Building; Accomodates up to 10
Roll up and your sleeves and get ready to build something useful! Scouts will get a chance to use different woodworking tools and learn proper tool safety. With their new skills, participants will construct a simple toolbox!
